Proficiency Testing

I wanted to give my students some type of external proficiency assessment to determine their level of proficiency at the end of each level of study.  Because of technical issues, I ended up testing a small sample at the beginning of this school year rather than the end of last year as I had planned.  I used the STAMP test from Avant Assessment, which cost $20 per student.  The results were very interesting.  It gave me a good idea of the students’ strengths and weaknesses.  Avant has a document available called a textbook alignment tool that identifies common themes for each level of proficiency.  I am going to compare it with our current curriculum.

Avant also has available for purchase The ClassPak, a database for creating reading and writing assessments.
